Dokubo-Asari threatens oil production
Posted by Metral
Abuja- Leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Dokubo-Asari has threatened a complete halt to oil production if the Nigerian government dare arrest him for his provocative utterances to cause unrest.
Dokubo-Asari moved a motion in the Nigeria House of Representatives where he called upon the legislators and electorate give President Goodluck Jonathan a second if ever the country would want to continue experiencing peace, stability and harmony ahead of the 2015 presidential polls.
Nigeria is sharply divided between Christians and Muslims, but the southerners, who have been sidelined for years want Jonathan to be given yet another term of rule.
For his utterances, Dokubo-Asari threatened violence and insurgency if the government dares arrest adding that the move would have far-reaching implications on oil production and peace in Nigeria.
During a fiery press conference in Abuja, he was in defiant mood and openly attacked the government.
The conference followed reports Dokubo-Asari faced arrest on charges yet to be clarified.
“The last time former president Olusegun Obasanjo arrested me, my arrest reduced Nigeria’s oil production to 700 000 barrels per day from an estimated three million (3 000 000).
"This time, it will reduce it to zero barrels, and we will match violence by violence; intrigues by intrigues, we are ready for them,” he said.
The NDPVF leader also vowed that Nigeria would become “history” if he is arrested.
He wondered why those clamouring for his incarceration did not do so when some northern leaders threatened to make the country ungovernable.
“I stand by my statement which I made in my earlier press conference.
There will be no peace, not only in the Niger Delta, but everywhere, if Goodluck Jonathan is not President by 2015," Dokubo Asari added.
