2,000 soldiers and Fighter Jets are being deployed to Borno State.

Posted by Metral

About 2,000 security operatives and military hardware, including fighter jets have been deployed to Maiduguri ahead of yesterday’s declaration of State of Emergency.
In neighboring Yobe State, it is not clear how many soldiers were deployed but residents said shortly after the declaration of state of emergency, stop and search operations have been intensified in the state capital while movement have been restricted in other places.
Residents said the deployment of the federal troops, including the army, navy, air force and operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) began at the weekend.
“We started sensing danger on Saturday when we saw military trucks conveying soldiers to the Joint Task Force (JTF) headquarters along Pompomari area,” Usman Jika, a resident of Maiduguri said.
“By Sunday morning, so many roadblocks have sprung up in the state capital and there was noticeable cordon and search of houses by new faces (soldiers),” he said.
A resident of Kumshe, one of the red spots in Maiduguri said his neighbour was beaten to pulp on Sunday when soldiers besieged the areas and forced all the people out of their houses.
“All the soldiers that came to the neighborhood appeared new in the town, some of them said it is now time for ‘fire for fire” he said.
Another resident said he saw military aircrafts landing at the Maiduguri International Airport and the air strip at the Air Force base in the state capital.
“A lot of fighting equipment have been deployed to Maiduguri,” Hajja Maimuna, a resident of Gomari, whose house is close to the Air Force base said.
“We are really terrified because the military operatives coming to Maiduguri in the last two days far outnumbered those that came during the previous emergency rule,” she said.
“Even though the state governor has not been removed, which is good, the truth is that Maiduguri is now a garrison town, full of angry soldiers who are ready to kill at the slightest provocation. The deployment will definitely hamper social and economic life of the people,” she said.

History is Made As, ACN, CPC,AGPA, ANPP Finally Merge.

  1. APC antidote to Nigeria's break-up - Akande National chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN Chief Bisi Akande, in his solidarity speech at the convention, said: "That the CPC and ANPP are holding their national conventions the same day though in different locations to, among other things, endorse the ongoing merger process, barely three weeks after the ACN had done its own in Lagos, underscores the unquestionable commitment of the progressive Nigerian leaders to re-direct and reposition the politics and governance in this country".
  2. Some of the dignitaries at the CPC convention included ACN chieftain Chief Audu Ogbeh, ACN BoT member Chief Tom Ikimi, Alhaji Musa Gwadabe, ACN BoT member Chief Segun Osoba, ACN national publicity secretary Lai Mohammed, former speaker of the House of Representatives Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, Senator Solomom Ewuga, former military governor of Lagos State Brig-Gen.
  3. Three major parties have now crossed the final stages for the formation of the All Progressive Congress (APC): the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) set the stage a few weeks ago in Lagos when it dissolved into the APC; yesterday, the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) held their last conventions to give way for the full emergence of the APC.
  4. Onu cautioned that unless "we as a nation agree to strand firm for a change from the existing reign of confusion, injustice, selfishness and focus-less leadership of the ruling party, the nation is likely heading towards similar situation, but I am optimistic that we cannot allow this kind of situation to erupt in this country.
  5. Also speaking, the CPC national chairman, Prince Tony Momoh, said the PDP had given democracy a bad name in Nigeria and the new party was out to redeem the image of democracy and give Nigerians good governance.
  6. I sincerely hope and pray that every other step shall follow and that we will all join hands to break the stranglehold of evil that the Jonathan administration represents and has foisted on our country for the last two years.
  7. Another motion conferring powers on the BoT or the national executives of the CPC to take decisions or actions on issues that may arise after the convention and before the merger is effected without resort to the convention was moved by Sule Yahaya Harma, CPC member from Kano State and BoT member.
  8. He said that imposing one political party on the citizens of a country often degenerates into a disaster which, he added, could be learnt from the sad experiences of some Arab nations as well as countries now facing crises and other social disasters resulting from denial of transparent democratic justice.
  9. Fani-Kayode continued: "I salute those that have found the courage to stand up against the tyranny, blackmail, pettiness and incompetence of the Jonathan administration and I, together with millions of others, stand shoulder to shoulder with them in their quest to restore and resurrect the fortunes of our country.
  10. Politics without opposition is vain - Onu The national chairman of ANPP, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has said the opposition is necessary for a healthy and enduring democracy in Nigeria.

FG- Private jets used to fugitives and money laundering.

Posted by Metral

According to a Punch report, the Federal Government believe that private jets in Nigeria are being used not only to smuggle money out of the country, but also to smuggle wanted criminals out of the country. See the report below.
The Federal Government on Sunday said illegal consignments and cash in local and foreign currencies were being smuggled on daily basis in and out of the country aboard private jets.
It also said some persons that securities agencies had declared wanted were being airlifted out of the country aboard private and chartered jets.
As a result, it insisted that pilots flying such jets must declare the passenger manifest before being allowed to take off.
An aircraft manifest contains the names of all persons aboard the plane, among other things.
The Coordinating Information and Communications Manager for aviation parastatals, Mr. Yakubu Dati, told reporters in Lagos on Sunday that the order for the declaration of passenger manifest was necessary to check the abuse of the use of private and chartered jets.

He said for security reasons, especially the need to arrest those who had constituted security threats to the country, the government would not renege on its decision for pilots of private jets to file their manifests before being given Air Traffic Control clearance.

Dati said security operatives had disclosed that many wanted persons were being smuggled out of the country with private jets.

He also stated that some wanted persons were being sneaked into the country without appropriate checks as many private jets take off from private facilities at airports.

Dati spoke on the heels of the criticism that have trailed the introduction of some new policy measures for the private jet sub-sector in the country.

The government had through the National Civil Aviation Policy, 2013 unveiled two weeks ago directed pilots of private jets to file their manifests before obtaining ATC clearance.

It also said foreign registered private jets could only spend 15 days in the country, just as the policy also barred private jet owners from carrying friends and business associates.

Aviation stakeholders as well as the Action Congress of Nigeria had, however, severely criticised the policy, saying most of its provisions were not obtainable in any other part of the world.

An aviation expert and former Military Commandant, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, Group Captain John Ojikutu, said the demand for passengers’ manifest on private aircraft could only be done by the State Security Services.

“The need for passengers’ manifest on private aircraft, if required, can only be the responsibility of the State Security Services, and in the case of private aircraft on international flight, the Nigerian Immigration Service,” Ojikutu said

But Dati insisted that what the government wanted to do was to monitor the operations of unscheduled flights as well as their manifests due to the current security situation in the country.
According to him, charter services by private jets have become a lucrative business in the country and 80 per cent of the private jets have private licences, but carry out commercial operations.
This, he said, constituted safety challenges because aircraft with private licences were not being subjected to compulsory maintenance checks as those with commercial licences were made to do by the regulatory body, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority.

He also regretted that about 80 per cent of the 150 private jets operating in the country were registered overseas; a situation he said exempted them from paying taxes and five per cent charges to the NCAA.

Dati said, “So, when you collate what government agencies lose by the illegal operations of these aircraft, it amounts to over N25bn in a year. And I can authoritatively tell you that it is now a lucrative business that businessmen bring in aircraft to operate as private jets, while they are actually used for commercial purposes.

“So, it makes nonsense of those charter operators who follow the laid down processes and whose business has now been taken away by the illegal private operators.”

Atiku Abubakar Former Vice President Said "He had warned governors against giving youth guns"

Posted by Metral

  1. However, let me tell you when we created the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and started the campaign and those who wanted to contest all emerged, Rivers and Bayelsa State governors, at that time, released huge amounts of money and recruited youths and bought guns for them in order for the governors to win the election.
  2. However, recently, it has all been merged under the central government, a junior officer from the north posted to south and those from south posted to the north, but some crises if you did not engage the locals it is going to be difficult to address.
  3. A party where the governor does what he likes and anybody he wants is the one to win in an election, not who the people want then it is not a party any longer.
  4. People believed that this government is PDP government and you are one of the party's leaders.
  5. Some are of the opinion that this is a northern problem and you, the northern elders, are doing nothing to address the problem, instead you rely on government?
  6. What I want you to understand is that the party has been crippled, meaning that those in power have no regard and respect for the party.
  7. At the national level, there is also a problem when the party took her own side, governors took the other one, why?
  8. How could you do that because even in your state now, where the party chairman also comes from, There are a lot of problems and you have failed to adress them?
  9. I went and met them and told them that those boys you gathered, if you win the election and if you do not give them jobs they will start attacking people and they are the ones called Niger Delta militants now.
  10. How come we, who created the party, are not being consulted on how to address the party's problems?
  11. In that case why did not government punished anybody who bought weapons and gave it to some people?
  12. I met with the governor and told him that those boys you gathered and you gave them weapons you called them "ecomog" they are going to become a disaster and it happened.
  13. We are going to fix the party problems whether somebody likes it or not.
  14. Some are of the opinion that those who remain at that time are the ones doing all these things?
  15. ormer Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has said he personally warned former Borno, Bayelsa and Rivers States governors against giving youth arms during elections.
  16. Actually, there is time for the 2015 election, may be some are doing what they are doing now because of that may be not.
  17. There are challenges in funding, training and equipment for security personnel; for them to effectively protect the people's lives and properties.
  18. At that time things didn't get out of hand the way it is now, because they did not have those to attack people.
  19. No, it could be combined in order to address the problem in a very short period of time.
  20. What kind of advice didn't northern elders channel to the government?

Nigeria plans diversification into agriculture

Posted by Metral

  1. Akinwumi Adesina told The Wall Street Journal that the country is seeking to boost investment in agriculture as part of a drive to diversify Nigeria's economy away from oil and gas, and to create more jobs and food security in the process.
  2. Since then, he has been focused on rooting out corruption in the seed and fertilizer industry--"one of the most corrupt" sectors, he says--attracting more foreign investment and finding more domestic uses of local crops like cassava.
  3. CAPE TOWN--Nigeria's agriculture ministry has attracted $8 billion in foreign investment and aims to boost that to just over $10 billion by 2015, the country's minister of agriculture said this week.
  4. The country controlled 42% of the global trade in groundnut oil, 27% of the world's palm oil industry and 18% of the cocoa trade, according to data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
  5. Adesina, private seed and fertilizer companies sell directly to farmers.
  6. Government officials were selling fertilizer bought on behalf of farmers to neighboring countries, the minister says.
  7. He added agri-business company Syngenta will set up an office in Nigeria in June and there has also been interest from seed companies Monsanto Co. and DuPont Co.
  8. Previously state-owned commodity boards controlled the sale of cash crops and also seed and fertilizer.
  9. Adesina says will be Africa's biggest fertilizer plant.

Rooney is Leaving Manchester United.

Posted by Metral

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney, has sent in a transfer request, asking to leave Manchester United.
Speculations were rife this week, that the England international wanted out, after Ferguson himself announced he was leaving the club and he has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
The manager revealed after the 2-1 win over Swansea, that the former Everton man was keen to leave and that is why he was left out the side on Sunday afternoon.
“I don’t think Wayne was keen to play, simply because he has asked for a transfer,” Ferguson told Sky Sports 1.

“I think he wants to think it through in his mind – I think that’s a good idea. We’re not going to let him go.
“I think maybe he is a bit frustrated. He has been taken off once or twice in the past couple of weeks.”
The 27-year-old had previously asked to leave Old Trafford in 2010, before he signed a new five-year contract to stay.

El-Rufai - Jonathan’s Policies Are Reckless.

Posted by Metral

  1. Nasir El-Rufai, in this online interview, tells LEKE BAIYEWU the roles he played while in office and his disposition to Umaru Yar’ Adua and Goodluck Jonathan-led administrations As regards the solution to Boko Haram insurgency, you once said the Federal Government knew what to do and should do it.
  2. If you have read my book, ‘The Accidental Public Servant,’ you will see that my prominence in the Obasanjo government was because of the many assignments I was asked to handle, rather than any ambition.
  3. Weeks after his controversial book, The Accidental Public Servant, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory under President Olusegun Obasanjo-led administration, Mr.
  4. In your book, The Accidental Public Servant, you said former President Olusegun Obasanjo went on his knees to seek his vice, Atiku Abubakar’s cooperation with his second term bid?
  5. Have you seen or read any coherent rebuttal of my articles on the public policy, spending priorities and poor management of national resources by this government?
  6. You were appointed member of the National Energy Council in September 2007 by the late Yar’Adua’s administration but you resigned your appointment in June 2008.
  7. The Obasanjo government ended in May 2007 and I remained in Nigeria until June 2008, when I went abroad for further studies.
  8. We designed a private sector-led project for the new identity scheme and we selected the team to deliver the project, led by the current Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission shortly before we left office.
  9. After the fiasco of the SAGEM identity card project and the scandal associated with it, the Obasanjo government decided on a new approach.
  10. The National Identity Card Project, which you spearheaded, has been widely criticised as been a drain pipe and not meeting the expectation of the people.
  11. It is disappointing that the team has not delivered the project as envisaged and that the NIMC leadership has made it a project depending on the government treasury, rather than the initial vision of a private sector led investment.
  12. As the Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises and the Secretary of the National Council of Privatisation from November 1999 to July 2003, how would you describe the perceived failure in the sale of public corporations?
  13. As far back as June 2011, the Jonathan administration knew what it needed to do from the Galtimari Committee report and the resultant White Paper to nip the Boko Haram insurgency in the bud.
  14. We made far reaching recommendations to accelerate the completion of the National Independent Power Project, but the (Umaru) Yar’adua-Jonathan administrations did not focus on implementing them.
  15. That is where attention should be focussed, not on celebrating minuscule additions to the paltry total generation capacity of 3,200MW the Obasanjo administration left behind in April 2007.
  16. Does it mean your book, “Umaru Yar’Adua – Great Expectations, Disappointing Outcomes,” was a fight back against supporters of the Yar’Adua administration?
  17. The findings also showed that more than 80 per cent of privatised companies were either doing very well or not worse off than being under the control of the government.
  18. The Presidential Committee on Power Supply was set up by President Obasanjo, not ‘formed’ by me.
  19. Many of the policies of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration are driven by these unhelpful attitudes and sentiments, including the so-called amnesty programmes.
  20. Is it true that you once considered succeeding former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo but that some powerful forces in the PDP botched your ambitio
